Why You Shouldn’t Drive On Empty: Your Fuel Gauge Isn’t Always Accurate Some vehicles with electronic or needle point readouts are not always incredibly accurate. After your hit “Empty” you may have 1 mile left or 20, regardless you shouldn’t leave the length of your trip up to fate. Your Fuel Pump Uses Gasoline As A Coolant Your pump uses gasoline as a coolant, and when there’s no gas to pull in, it uses air instead. Air creates much more friction, and therefore heat, which creates the perfect recipe for your fuel pump to burn out quickly. Sediment Collects At The Bottom Of Your Tank Every fuel tank has a certain amount of sediment that collects at the bottom and when you are very low on fuel, your pump will start pulling in sediment-filled gas, sending gunk through your fuel lines and fuel injectors until you’ll need a full fuel system flush to get it running properly again.

Below, we have listed out a few of the top reasons why you should be checking up on your tires. So check it out below and be sure to stop in to fill up your tires or perhaps swap out the old for a brand new pair of tires! Why You Should Be Checking Your PSI: Proper PSI will help optimize performance and your vehicle's fuel efficiency. This is especially useful if you tend to run your A/C or heat for long periods of time and increasing gas prices). Avoid sidewall flexing and tire squirm when properly inflated. Avoid potential dangers like collisions, blowouts, heat build-up, and potential rolling hazards. Correct PSI improves durability and performance designed to match the specific needs of your vehicle. PSI stabilizes the tire’s structure, blends responsiveness, traction, and handling. Extreme temperatures and driving conditions will affect your tire’s PSI. Underinflated tires can wear prematurely due to being soft and unable to maintain their proper shape. Overinflated tires can wear unevenly due to being rigid and hard. It can also lead to a tire blowout. If your vehicle has been sitting for a long period of time, chances are the PSI is incorrect and you will need to fill up the tires. Corrosion on metal. Any cracks, tears, or missing pieces in the rubber. Rubber squeegee should fit flush against the windshield and shouldn’t have rounded edges. Flexible rubber is a must - if your squeegee isn’t flexible it can cause streaks. Loose fit of the squeegee on wiper frame. Common Problems: Streaking Skipping Wearing Splitting Bent Frames If you notice any of the common problems listed above, it’s time to swap out your wipers for a new pair. These problems will make it difficult to see out of your windshield when inclement weather hits and can lead to dangerous situations. How To Avoid Ruining Your Wipers: Clean your windshield each time to you fill up the tank. NEVER use your wipers as an ice scraper, use your defroster. During winter months, pull your wipers away from the windshield to prevent ice build up. Clean your wiper blades using a wet paper towel to remove dirt and grime. Don’t Be A Fool, Change Them Today!

Have you noticed a change in your vehicle? Perhaps, you can tell that the battery is on its last leg and it’s time for a replacement. A great way to check is by asking one of our technicians to test the battery during your next oil change. Often times, this can catch a dying battery in the act and will keep you from getting stranded on the side of the road. If your battery is dead or is on its way out, it is time for a change and we want to tell you how you can change it from the convenience of your own driveway. Follow our guide and get ready to learn some battery knowledge! Check the owner’s manual for the location of your battery or simply pop open the hood and take a look. More often than not, the battery will stick out and you’ll notice it right away. Identify the positive posts from the negative. Positive posts/cables are often red and have a plus sign on it. Negative posts/cables are often black and have a negative sign. Using a wrench, loosen the bolt that has secured the negative terminal and cable to the negative post. Once the bolt is loose, pull the cable away from the post and set off to the side out of the way. Repeat with the positive terminal. Always do the negative post first! Remove the clamp or whatever may be holding the battery in the holding tray. Carefully, lift the battery out of the tray and take note that it will be heavy. If you notice corrosion to the battery cables, terminals, holding tray or posts - use a wire brush and anti-corrosive cleaning solution. Make sure that all parts are dry before replacing the battery. Insert the new battery into the holding tray and secure it once more with the clamp. Remove the plastic covers that cover battery posts and install anti-corrosion washers over them. Apply a thin layer of grease to posts and terminals before connecting the positive terminal to the positive post FIRST. Use a wrench to tighten the connector until snug and repeat for the negative terminal. Give the battery a wiggle. If it moves, you need to tighten the clamp to ensure that the battery is not able to move when you’re driving along the roadway. And, voila! With spring in full swing, many people are going to be switching their winter tires out for a new or different set. But what do you do with your tires you just took off your car? If you don’t plan on tossing them, do you know how to properly store them so they stay in tip-top shape for the next season? Well, that’s alright, I got you covered in this week’s blog, I have a to-do list to ensure your tires are properly stored for when they are not in use. Clean up your tires, we all enjoy being squeaky clean as do your tires. It’s important to rid each tire of any brake dust or grime that have built up over the winter. Don’t skip on your wheels, they need TLC too. Dry completely once you are finished. Each tire should be placed in its own plastic bag, this bag should be big enough to cover the entire tire. Bags should also be airtight, use a zip tie after removing the air. This will reduce oil evaporation and keep tires lubricated. Heat can cause damage to your tires, be sure to keep them out of extreme heat and/ or direct sunlight. Keep tires in a climate-controlled, dry area. Avoid areas like attics or sheds that are exposed to extreme heat or cold, tires should also be kept away from ozone sources like sump pumps, furnaces, or electric motors. If you have space, store tires vertically rather than stacking them one on top of the other. This will reduce stress amongst your tires and avoid distortion. Keep them off the ground, for example, place them on a piece of clean wood. Lastly, if you are not using a car, remove and store the tires. If your car sits for extended periods of time it can be harmful to your tires.
