“What Did Dad Say Again?”: Toyota Warning Lights Made Easy

Let’s face it — the moment a mystery light pops up on your dash, most of us do the same thing: squint, panic slightly, and then try to remember what Dad used to say about “that one with the exclamation mark.” Was it tires? Brakes? The flux capacitor? At Fiore Toyota in Hollidaysburg, PA, we’re here to decode the dashboard for you — no dad required. Below, we’re breaking down some of the most common Toyota warning lights so you can spend less time Googling and more time driving with confidence. Master Warning Light Translation: Something’s up. This triangle-with-an-exclamation-point light is your car’s way of saying, “Hey, I need attention.” It could be a variety of minor or moderate issues — from low washer fluid to more serious alerts. A quick scan of your dashboard messages or your Toyota app will usually reveal the culprit. Low Fuel Light Translation: You gambled. You lost. We all think we can push it. But when this light comes on, it’s best to find a gas station — stat. Especially on those winding roads around Blair County, where “next gas: 40 miles” isn’t unheard of. Charging System Warning Light Translation: Your battery might be calling it quits. If you see this little battery symbol light up, don’t ignore it. It could mean your alternator or charging system is malfunctioning. If your radio’s fading and the lights are dimming, swing by Fiore Toyota’s service center before you end up stranded at Sheetz. Low Oil Pressure Light Translation: Red means stop — seriously. This is not a drill. If your oil light turns on, pull over immediately and shut the engine off. Low oil pressure can do major damage in a short time. Call your trusty mechanic (or, better yet, us) for what to do next. Headlight High-Beam Indicator Translation: Congratulations, you found the brights. No cause for alarm here — this little blue icon just lets you know your high beams are on. Just don’t blind the good people of Duncansville on your way home. Tire Pressure Warning Light Translation: Inflate your life. If your tires are feeling a little low — or your dashboard thinks they are — this light will let you know. It could be as simple as a cold morning or a slow leak. Stop by and we’ll check it out for you. (We even have free air!) VSC OFF & TRAC OFF Lights Translation: Traction control is off. Tread carefully. Whether you turned them off intentionally (say, to get out of a snowbank) or by accident, these systems help keep you stable during slippery driving. You’ll want to turn them back on unless you’re doing donuts in an empty parking lot. (We don’t officially condone that, by the way.) Cruise Control Indicator Translation: You’re cruising now. This one’s just here to tell you that cruise control is on — enjoy the ride, but keep your foot near the brake just in case you need to step in. SRS Airbag Warning Light Translation: Your airbags might not deploy when you need them. If this light’s on, don’t wait. Your Supplemental Restraint System is no joke. Bring your vehicle to Fiore Toyota to get it checked out right away. When in Doubt, Bring It to Fiore Toyota Let’s be real: warning lights don’t always give you the full story. If you ever see something you’re unsure about, don’t play the guessing game — bring it to the experts at Fiore Toyota, 1000 S Logan Boulevard in Hollidaysburg, PA. We’ll scan your system, explain what’s going on, and get you safely back on the road in no time. Need help deciphering your dashboard right now? Schedule service or give us a call. We’ve got your back (and your oil, tires, battery, and brakes).

We sure are and we’re getting started this season by bringing you some car cleaning tips to ensure that you start this new season clean and ready for whatever comes your way! But if you’re ready to start fresh, we encourage you to stop in and let our team help you find the perfect new Toyota that fits your budget, needs, and lifestyle! We look forward to seeing you here this fall! Fiore Toyota’s Top 3 Car Cleaning Tips Undercarriage Cleaning Many car owners always keep the visible parts of their vehicle clean and sparkly. But what about the undercarriage of your vehicle? While your vehicle’s undercarriage is always just inches off the ground, it’s important to clean up and get rid of any road-borne impurities that come in contact with your undercarriage. Especially with slush and road salt quickly approaching in the upcoming winter months. It’s important to clean it well, clean it often. Exterior Protection This is a little easier but still a task that takes a bit of elbow grease to complete and complete right. Impurities that lie hidden in moisture can lead to slowly eating away at your paint job, no matter how good it is. It’s important to ensure your car is waxed periodically and put that protective barrier between your paint and the elements! Interior cleaning Everything you tread on outside of your vehicle, always makes its way inside your car at one point or another. While it may be difficult to get out the vacuum and get into all the nooks and crannies, it’s extremely important to do so. Apart from the feeling that comes from being in a clean interior, you don’t want to find yourself with upholstery damage because you neglected to clean your ride. Get out that vacuum and make it sparkle. And a pro tip, add a new air freshener to freshen up the interior smell of your vehicle!

Be Sure To Check Your Tire’s PSI This February! | Hollidaysburg, PA

February is here and spring is just around the corner! And with a new season comes some pretty extreme temperature changes, sometimes as much as a 20 degrees difference in a single day! These fluctuations can really affect your tires PSI and cause hazardous driving conditions! So, Fiore Toyota has compiled information on why keeping your tire at its proper PSI is so important! Take a look at our list below if your ride is in need of a tire replacement, schedule your service appointment at Fiore Toyota’s Service Center today. Why Your Tire’s PSI Is So Important: Proper PSI will help optimize performance and your vehicle's fuel efficiency. This is especially useful if you tend to run your A/C or heat for long periods of time and increasing gas prices). Avoid sidewall flexing and tire squirm when properly inflated. Avoid potential dangers like collisions, blowouts, heat build-up, and potential rolling hazards. Correct PSI improves durability and performance designed to match the specific needs of your vehicle. PSI stabilizes the tire’s structure, blends responsiveness, traction, and handling. Extreme temperatures and driving conditions will affect your tire’s PSI. Underinflated tires can wear prematurely due to being soft and unable to maintain their proper shape. Overinflated tires can wear unevenly due to being rigid and hard. It can also lead to a tire blowout. If your vehicle has been sitting for a long period of time, chances are the PSI is incorrect and you will need to fill up the tires. Vehicles that sit without being used have a tendency to have under-inflated tires. Your tires will last longer and the tread won’t wear out as easily if your tires are always properly inflated to the correct PSI.

Your Ultimate Go-To For Winter Driving | Hollidaysburg, PA

If you are hitting the road this Thanksgiving you aren’t the only one. And with heavy traffic and poor weather conditions, you could find yourself running into some issues. Since it’s been a year since most of us have hit the road in the winter, it might be a good idea to brush up on some winter driving tips we put together for you this week! Be sure to take a peek and drive slow during your holiday travel! You might want to get there soon, but it’s important for both you and your passengers to get to your destination safely. Driving Tips: Avoid driving while you’re fatigued. Never warm up a vehicle in an enclosed area, such as a garage. Make certain your tires are properly inflated. Keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid gas line freeze-up. If possible, avoid using your parking brake in cold, rainy, and snowy weather. Do not use cruise control when driving on any slippery surface (wet, ice, sand). Always look and steer where you want to go. Use your seat belt every time you get into your vehicle. Long-Distance Driving Tips: Watch Weather Reports Service your vehicle before hitting the road Keep at least half a tank at all times If you become snow-bound, stay with your vehicle. It provides temporary shelter and makes it easier for rescuers to locate you. Tie a brightly colored cloth to the antenna or place a cloth at the top of a rolled up window to signal distress, if needed. Make sure the exhaust pipe isn’t clogged with snow, ice, or mud if you slide off the road Tips For Driving In The Snow: Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Applying the gas slowly to accelerate is the best method for gaining traction and avoiding skids. Drive slowly. Everything takes longer on snow-covered roads. Accelerating, stopping, turning – nothing happens as quickly as on dry pavement. Give yourself time to maneuver by driving slowly. The normal dry pavement following distance of three to four seconds should be increased to eight to ten seconds Know your brakes. Whether you have antilock brakes or not, the best way to stop is threshold braking. Don’t stop if you can avoid it. Don’t stop going up a hill. There’s nothing worse than trying to get moving up a hill on an icy road. Make it known what kind of driving assistance you have (AAA, Roadside Assistance, etc.) Is your vehicle in shape to get you from point A to point B safely this Thanksgiving? If not, be sure to stop in or schedule a service with the pros here at Fiore Toyota! Our team of professionals can get your ride back into tip-top shape in no time!

Fall Cleaning Tips For Your Toyota | Hollidaysburg, PA

Fall is in fall swing and before we know it the temperatures outside will be dropping low, and your Toyota is going to need some maintenance before that happens! As always, if you need help or don’t have time to complete your fall maintenance, our certified service professionals can help get your Toyota in tip-top shape in time for the fall season. All you have to do is schedule your service appointment and leave the rest to us! However, if you love getting your hands dirty with some DIY work, then this week’s blog is for you! Below you will find helpful tips and step-by-step instructions for cleaning your Toyota for the fall/winter season! The weather is so unpredictable so we suggest getting started on your maintenance sooner than later! So don’t wait any longer, kickstart your maintenance today! Car Battery: Pop open your hood and brush away the dust. Fall is a great time to inspect your car battery to ensure there are no issues down the road when the colder weather creeps in! Make sure your engine cables and terminals are in good shape and retighten if necessary for good contact. Make sure there’s no corrosion or dirt build-up. If this is the case, this would be a good time to disconnect and clean them up. If your vehicle is newer and you have a maintenance-free battery with no removable caps, there’s not much for you to do besides peeking around the remainder of your hood to ensure there are no leaks, breaks, or issues. Headlights: Many new vehicles have LED headlights that you can’t just pop out and clean, so you might need scheduled maintenance with our team if this is your situation. If you still have non-LED lighting, it’s important to clean/replace your headlights to avoid haziness. Clouded headlights can be a safety hazard, compromising night vision, and reducing the effectiveness of your headlights. This is especially dangerous in winter, where conditions are less than favorable and the darkness is more consistent. You can purchase a headlight cleaning kit, or use household items such as a toothbrush, baking soda, and the owner’s manual approved products. Tires: Tire maintenance is always a must, not just during the winter months. However, your tires play a crucial role in your vehicle’s winter performance. The first thing you should do is to check your tire tread. When your tread is 2/32" your tires are considered bald and you will need to replace your tires immediately. If your tire tread is above this you’re okay, but should consider replacing soon if it’s closer to balding. Most vehicles are purchased with all-season tires, which provide good performance all year round. However, if you live in a very snowy area, we highly suggest purchasing snow tires. Once your tires are on and in good condition, we suggest scrubbing away any dirt, grime, or buildup. Wash & Wax: Chances are your vehicle needs good washing after all your summer travel. Between dirt, dead bugs, and even beach sand, your exterior probably isn’t shining like it used to. Give your vehicle a good cleaning, this means the top, sides, underneath, and even the tires. Once you’ve washed your car, it’s a good idea to wax your vehicle’s exterior. Getting a car wax is a great way to keep your car’s finish looking new. Waxing can be tricky, so be sure to check your owner’s manual for safe products from your vehicle or leave it to the pros in our service department! Wipers: Windshield wipers maintenance is regularly overlooked. However, your wipers are extremely important for your vision behind the wheel...especially in the fall and winter months. Leaves will be falling very soon, and rain is no stranger to the fall months. This means you’ll need strong wipers to clear the leaves and rain off your windshield. Right after the leaves comes the snow, and anyone who has driven in a snowstorm knows how important your winters are. If your wipers are leaving streaks of water on your windshield, it’s time to replace or clean them. Although drivers rarely change them, wipers break down pretty quickly. In fact, they should be changed every 6-12 months. Interior: It’s time to say goodbye to the trash that’s taken up a vacancy in your car! After traveling all summer long, it’s only normal your interior needs a little pick me up. We suggest grabbing a garbage bag, your vacuum cleaner, and some multi-surface cleaner. First started by taking everything out, and we mean everything! Then, vacuum away crumbs, dust, and whatever else is in there. Don’t forget to clean off whatever item you’ll be putting back in your vehicle. Then it’s time to dust, spray down your dash, console, gear shift, radio system, and of course windows! Finally, put whatever you’re keeping back inside your cabin in a neat and orderly way, and toss whatever is remaining!
