When it comes to headlights, well, there’s no room for compromise. Those things have to work perfectly all the time - and when they don’t, you’ve got a problem. Here are some common reasons your headlights might not be working the way they should, and how you can talk to the shop tech about getting them fixed. If only one of your headlights is out, then you do need to get it fixed. This could be due to a burnt out bulb or a broken component in your headlight assembly. If both of your headlights are out, then you’ve got a serious problem! There’s a slim possibility that it could just be that both of your headlights are burnt out, but it’s far more likely that it’s due to a broken relay or control switch - either of which need to get repaired ASAP. If your headlights both work but just aren’t shining as brightly as you think they should be, then give them a good cleaning with some solution and a clean microfiber cloth. If they’re still dim, look closely at the surface of your headlights. If it’s yellow and scratched and chipped, then come ask us about headlight reconditioning. With temperatures fluctuating and ultimately dropping, you’re going to want to make sure your tires are holding up well so that you can get where you need to go, regardless of the weather. You should be checking your tires pretty much whenever you get into your vehicle in the morning - and this is something you can do in a matter of seconds. Check out how to make sure both your tire pressure AND your tire tread are in good shape - in less than 30 seconds! To check your tire pressure, all you’ll need is a tire pressure gauge. This can be found at any auto parts store for anywhere between a couple of dollars and a few dollars (you know what I mean!) and is an essential accessory for your vehicle. To use it, just unscrew the cover from the valve stem, fit the gauge onto it, and check the pressure. Put the cap back on and you’re good! The tire pressure your tires should be at is located in three places: on the tires themselves, on a sticker in your door jamb, and in your owner’s manual. To check your tread, all you’ll need is a penny. Put the penny with Lincoln’s head facing directly down into the tread of your tire. If you can see the top of his head, your tires need to be replaced ASAP. If not, you’re good. The lower they are the closer you are to needing to replace your tires! Hello to you, my human! It’s me, your car! I just wanted to take this opportunity to share with you my wish list for this holiday season. It’s not long, and I would really appreciate these gifts. That means you will too, because when I am happy you’re happy! A nice bath. Soap and water go a long way, especially with cold weather coming! If you keep me clean during the winter (or “road salt season,” as I call it), then I won’t rust out from the salt and you’ll look great driving around in a good-looking automobile! An oil change. Nothing gets me going like a great oil change! It’s like going to the spa, or doing one of those juice cleanses… except an oil change gives actual results. Maybe vacuum me out? The crumbs between my cushions are kinda itchy after a while. A new air freshener! I love smelling fresh and nice. You like it too. I know. For you to check my tires. I can’t really see them myself, and it’d make me feel better to know that I’ve still got a good tread to keep us both safe in the winter. An upgraded sound system. You might think you can do this, but it involves very delicate wiring that could start a fire, fry your system, or just not end up working. This is an expensive auto part, so you might think you can cut your costs by installing it on your own, and in that instance, you would be wrong. Sure, you can use it to see exactly what’s wrong, but that won’t fix it. Have you ever accidentally parked under a tree and realized it was a pine tree after you came back to your car and found it covered in sap? I definitely have. I was looking for something to write about this week and realized that I could kill two birds with one stone - figure out how to get the sap off of my car AND write a blog about it! I hope that you enjoy this blog and can get any and all sap off of your car because of my stellar advice. So, the sap. It’s the worst thing in the WORLD, especially when you get it on your clothes or your car or your shoes or something. This is because pine sap is IMPOSSIBLE to get off of everything, and when it gets on your car it is the worst of the worst. Especially when it is on the windshield. It is on the windshield of my car right now and I am perpetually angry about it. I need to get this junk off of my car immediately. Thank the powers that be for the magic of the internet, right? First, if the sap is fresh, you should wash your car. Buff it out with the softest of washing cloths and make sure it’s all off. This sounds easy but if you’re like me then you are the type of person who only discovers the sap after it’s hardened, then this technique will not work for you at all. It will probably work to make you very frustrated but that will be about the only thing it does. So then we move to the next solution. This is to get some commercial sap-getter-offer, like Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover or Goo Gone Automotive. Follow the instructions and then, like, hopefully the sap will come off of your car. If you need to scrape, do it VERY GENTLY - but you should not have to scrape at all. It sometimes helps if your car is in a warm place or if you heat up the sap with something like a hairdryer or a portable sun or whatever the kids are using these days. That softens it up which makes it more ripe for the removal. If this fails, go in and talk to your dealer. They’ll be able to clean up your car, especially if you have a LOT of sap on there, or a combo deal of sap and dead bug guts. Sure, it might be a little more expensive, but you know that they’ll do a really awesome and professional job of detailing your ride. Now to go clean up my little Prius….. Poor thing doesn’t know what hit her. But I do know that if I cannot remove the sap, I can take her in to Fiore Toyota and they’ll get the job done. Very reassuring.
