Altoona Area, Claysburg-Kimmel, Hollidaysburg Area, Central, Bellwood-Antis, and Tyrone Area School Districts each received a $3,000 check to assist in their efforts to fight childhood hunger. Helping Students Thrive Beyond the School Week Backpack Programs play an essential role in ensuring students have access to food over the weekends, when school meals and other resources may not be available. These programs discreetly provide children with nutritious food to take home, helping reduce food insecurity and supporting the overall well-being of students throughout the region. Fiore Toyota recognizes the importance of these initiatives and is proud to support the districts as they work tirelessly to make sure no child goes hungry. As many are aware, this coming Monday, April 8th, will mark a significant celestial event: a total solar eclipse across parts of Mexico and North America. NASA estimates that approximately 31.6 million individuals reside within the eclipse's direct path, with millions more located within a two-hour drive. During the 2017 solar eclipse, an estimated 5 million people ventured to witness this astronomical marvel, leading to extensive traffic delays lasting several hours on select routes. To assist in your eclipse-viewing plans, NASA has unveiled an Eclipse Explorer Map detailing the anticipated trajectory of the total solar eclipse. This resource helps you identify prime viewing locations and areas to potentially avoid traveling through. Whether you're gearing up for a journey to witness the eclipse firsthand or are concerned about potential traffic jams, Fiore Toyota is here to provide some safety tips for navigating the roads. Prepare for Traffic: If you're headed towards a major city within the eclipse's path, brace yourself for potential traffic congestion. Given the rarity of such a significant eclipse, throngs of people of all ages and driving abilities are expected to hit the road. Ensure your vehicle is fueled up beforehand, pack essential supplies like water and snacks, and mentally prepare for extended periods of bumper-to-bumper traffic. Beware of Observers: With everyone vying for the best view, some may resort to positioning themselves in precarious spots along the road, even in the midst of traffic lanes. Children, in particular, may become engrossed in the spectacle and neglect road safety. Additionally, fellow drivers might be distracted by the event. Stay vigilant and focused on the road to avoid potential accidents. Stay Focused: If you're driving during the solar eclipse and unable to find a safe spot to pull over for viewing, resist the temptation to divide your attention between the road and the sky. Missing the eclipse isn't the end of the world, as NASA will provide stunning high-resolution images for viewing later. Your safety and that of others on the road should always take precedence. Protect Your Eyes: Ensure you have proper eye protection for directly viewing the eclipse. While driving, you won't need this, so your regular sunglasses suffice. However, if you plan on gazing directly at the sun during the eclipse, be sure to have suitable eye protection to safeguard your vision. Back in 2021, Toyota Motor Corporation announced their new North Carolina battery manufacturing plant with an initial investment of $1.29 billion. On Wednesday August 31, 2022 Toyota was proud to announce that it had invested another 2.5 Billion into the Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC) facility! This makes Toyota’s total investment a whopping $3.8 billion and provides the area with approximately 2,100 new jobs! This manufacturing facility will produce batteries for hybrid electric vehicles and battery electric vehicles and take Toyota one step closer to its goal of carbon neutrality by the year 2035! Toyota is changing the world! I mean, we already know that a Toyota changed your world - because Toyota vehicles are totally awesome - but the company itself is actively Changing The World. And that’s not a nebulous statement, either. Toyota has been recognized by Fortune Magazine as one of the top 10 companies that are changing the world. How, you ask? Read on! Toyota has been listed as number 8 out of 50 companies on the list because of their strategy to reduce carbon emissions and their introduction of the Mirai, the new hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, to the mass market. This is huge! Using hydrogen instead of gasoline cuts emissions and makes the Mirai one of the greenest vehicles out there. The hydrogen fuel cell is also way more sustainable and can contribute to a greener future for the world. That’s definitely world-changing, right? Because of Toyota’s track record with awesome hybrid vehicles, this isn’t the first time the company has made this list. This is actually the second time in three years that Toyota has made this list. Of course, the list has only been around since 2015, but Toyota’s on a solid 2-out-of-3. You can’t shake a stick at that! Especially because according to the Shared Value Initiative, who helps create this list, companies rarely appear more than once… but not every company is Toyota! Hopefully, Toyota will work even more on sustainability in vehicles. There will always be work to be done in terms of healing our environment, and we can’t just give up cars. We need them too much! Toyota looks at that and says, “okay, sure, but how can we make this better?” That’s how we got the Prius, and that’s how we’ll get whatever comes next after the Mirai.
