What does TRD stand for?
TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development, which is the branch of Toyota that supports our competitive racing interests worldwide. However, it also has a performance tuning division that produces products and accessories that improve the performance of Toyota street cars.
When it comes to the TRD badge on trucks and SUVs, it’s mostly about the off-roading capabilities. The most important difference is in the suspension, but TRD influences other areas like exhaust, brakes, styling, and more, depending on the model and grade.
TRD Grades
There are 3 TRD grades that encompass different features and capacities for off-roading. Not every model with TRD offers each grade, for example the Sequoia only offers a TRD Sport trim. The Tacoma is the only model that offers all 3 TRD grades.
TRD Sport
Appearance package only - no extra off-roading capabilities than the non-TRD trims
Includes:
- Sport-tuned suspension
- 17-inch alloy wheels

TRD Off-Road
Includes extra off-roading performance features such as:
- Special TRD-tuned off-road suspension

- Crawl Control (off-roading cruise control)
- Inclinometer with roll/pitch displays

TRD Pro
Ultimate off-roading package plus comfort and convenience
Upgrades include:
- Special TRD-tuned off-road suspension with a 1-inch lift
- Fox Internal Bypass coil-over springs and rear remote reservoir shocks
- 16-inch TRD Pro black alloy wheels
- 35 degree approach angle
- TRD Pro Cat-back Exhaust
- Thicker front skid plate
- TRD Pro leather shift knob
- TRD Pro graphic on the floor mats and black leather-trimmed seats
- Heritage-inspired “Toyota” front grille
- Available power moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and driver assist features
TRD Pro Series: True icons of the off-road
The models that have an available TRD Pro Series trim are 4Runners, Tundra CrewMax and Double Cab, and Tacoma Access Cab and Double Cab.
Each model may have slightly different features included in the package, but every 4WD TRD Pro Series vehicle includes:

- TRD-tuned front springs
- Heritage-inspired “Toyota” front grille
- TRD graphic floor mats and shift knobs
