Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama is celebrating the production of their 4 millionth engine at the plant located in Huntsville, that employs approximately 1,300 workers and produces V6, V8 and 4-cylinder engines. This is not the first time that the plant has made international news since it is the only plant globally to produce all three types of engines under one roof, making it one of the largest Toyota engine plants in the world.

Also, the Toyota Motor Manufacturing plant in Alabama is one of only two designated “model sustainable plants” in North America, resulting in other Toyota facilities benchmarking for its environmental achievements.

“We look to the Alabama plant as a leader.  Every challenge it has faced, the team there exceeds any-and-all expectations,” said Osamu Ushio, executive vice president of operations and manufacturing, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc.  “That is why we continue to invest so much into the facility.  They have what it takes to be successful – a strong group of team members who are dedicated to quality and safety.  They should be very proud of the 4-millionth milestone.”

To understand just how monumental reaching the 4 millionth engine is, here are some stats:

  • Place the 4 million engines built over the last 12 years front to back and they would stretch from Huntsville to Las Vegas.
  • Since the start of production in 2003, the Huntsville plant has built 1 million 4-cylinder engines, 1.3 million V6 engines and 1.7 million V8 engines.
  • Spend two shifts in the plant and you’ll see a lot of horsepower – nearly 2,500 engines are built each day with an annual capacity of 710,000 engines.  The horsepower of 4 million engines reaches over 1 billion, which is enough output to launch 29 space shuttles.
  • The engines go into seven Toyota vehicles built in North America: Camry (America’s best-selling car), RAV4, Highlander, Sequoia, Tacoma, Tundra and Venza.

3.MYTH: Seatbelts alone protect small children. FACT: Children shorter than 4’9” need booster seats.

4.MYTH: A one year old can ride in a forward-facing car seat. FACT: Children should be rear-facing until age two.

Auto-Biography is the name of the new series that the Toyota has released on their YouTube page that provides customers with a look into the unique and endless capabilities of the 2015 Toyota Camry. This series showcases individuals who, like the Camry, offer more than meets the eye, and are constantly evolving to be the best version of themselves.

In the first episode, Toyota focuses on Jill, who works a day job as a customer service rep, but in her spare time is an avid writer. Over the years, she has published two children’s books, written a steamy play and is currently working on a stage production that tells the story of a famous R&B singer.

Hear Jill tell her full story in the video above and head on over to Fiore Toyota to learn more about the 2015 Toyota Camry.

The Toyota brand has been included on Fortune Magazine’s first-ever “Change the World” list, which was recently released. There is a total of 51 companies on this list and Toyota was listed to the number three spot due to its advancements in Hybrid and zero-emissions vehicles. Overall, Toyota hybrid vehicles account for 40 percent of the hybrid models sold globally in the hybrid market.

Toyota was the first brand to ever mass-produce a Hybrid vehicle when it developed the Toyota Prius back in 1997. Now, 18 years later, the brand is about to make history again when it launches the first-ever mass-produced Hydrogen Fuel Cell Zero-emissions vehicle next month. This all-new model is of course none other than the highly-anticipated Toyota Mirai.

The Magazine put this list together by asking business, academic, and nonprofit experts to provide them with businesses that they felt had made a significant impact on global social and environmental issues along with performing at the top of their game in terms of their profit-making strategy. Fortune ended up with a total of 200 nominees which were then evaluated based on four main factors. These factors included  the degree of business innovation involved, the measurable impact at scale on an important social challenge, the contribution of the shared-value activities to the company’s profitability and competitive advantage, and the significance of the shared value effort to the overall business. In the end, they narrowed the list down to 51 overall winners.

Toyota has been making an effort to showcase the impressive efficiency and capabilities of the all-new Toyota Mirai, the brand’s first-ever hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle. In order to demonstrate how hydrogen fuel can be harnessed from nearly anything, Toyota created a “Fueled By Everything” series on their youTube page. In the first two videos, they showed how everyday products such as cow manure and water from a creek could be converted into hydrogen to power this vehicle. Recently, they released another video in the series that showed them teaching children that the lemonade from their stands can be used to fuel this vehicle as well.

Unlike the more documentary style used in the previous videos in the series, this episode takes a more fun, humorous approach to the situation. The short spot shows a Toyota representative arriving at a neighborhood filled with kids trying to sell lemonade at their lemonade stands, but with little success. She then offers to purchase their excess lemonade from them and shows them how it can be used to power he car.

Construction of the new Toyota engineering campus officially began last earlier this week with a groundbreaking ceremony held at the site of the facility’s future location in Georgetown. The goal with the development of this new facility is to expand the efficiency and overallocation quality of the brand by having the entire production engineering team all working together at the same location. This large goal will be made possible through the construction of this 250,000 sq. ft. facility that will be the new home for about 700 Toyota team members.

“We are excited to expand the presence that Toyota started over 25 years ago,” said Production Engineering Senior Vice President, Tadahisa Isono. “From this facility, we will not only support our diverse workforce and network of manufacturing operations throughout North America, we will also equip our team to bring the future of manufacturing to the present.”

During the ceremony, Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz was on hand to offer his gratitude to the community for its years of support and to present three local organizations with new Toyota vehicles. These three organizations include SOAR (Shaping Our Appalachian Region), Scott United, an arm of the Georgetown-Scott County Chamber of Commerce, and  the Salato Wildlife Education Center. Additionally, in order to commemorate the event further, a 2015 TDR Pro Series Tundra was used to make the first official dig at the new construction site.

The 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles have officially wrapped up and to celebrate, Toyota has uploaded a video looking back at the incredible Journey.
