Last week we brought you two videos showing how Toyota manufacturing plants and dealerships are raising environmental awareness and conservation. Now we bring you the second set of videos featuring biodiversity and harnessing the power of hydrogen. In “A Pit Stop for Pollinators” the West Virginia Toyota Manufacturing plant gives migrating Monarch butterflies a safe place to rest during their flight while giving local school kids hands-on experience with nature and biodiversity. “Getting Our Hands On Hydrogen” takes a look at the 15-year partnership between Toyota and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and how they have been exploring innovative, sustainable ways to produce large amounts of hydrogen.

Happy Thanksgiving from everyone here at Fiore Toyota! Our customers are so important to us and we wish we could express our thanks to you individually. Be thankful for the time spent with family, friends, and loved ones and for the delicious food this holiday brings. We hope to see you here tomorrow to take advantage of our Black Friday specials.

As we’ve demonstrated with previous blog topics, Toyota is a huge advocate for environmental awareness and conservation. In their most recent campaign, four videos were released showing us the efforts that are going on around the country by Toyota production facilities and dealerships.
The two videos we are posting today have to do with water conservation and recycling. “The Wash Can Wait” goes into detail about a new program in California where Toyota dealerships and their customers help conserve millions of gallons of water during a severe drought. “Turning Trash Into Treasure” shows how a Toyota manufacturing plant in Canada came up with the idea to turn wasted sunroof material into bins that protect parts and save space, time, and money.
Watch the two videos from the series below and we’ll post the other two in one of our blogs next week.

“As a mobility service platform provider, by collaborating with various companies and services, we would like to help create a new mobility society in order to offer safer and more convenient mobility to our customers,” said Shigeki Tomoyama, President of Toyota’s in-house Connected Company.

Toyota has already begun to change our mobile society by partnering with Uber, one of the largest ride-sharing services in the US, and car-sharing company, Getaround. The next step is for Toyota to introduce their Mobility Service Platform (MSPF), which will help mobility service providers serve their customers better.

MSPF empowers drivers and passengers through functions like leasing programs, vehicle management systems, and technological innovations like Toyota’s new Smart Key Box (SKB). The Smart Key Box makes lending and renting cars easier and more secure by giving car-sharing users the ability to lock, unlock, and start their vehicle from their smartphone.

Toyota will roll out the MSPF and the SKB with Getaround in a pilot program beginning in January 2017 in San Francisco, CA.

Here at Toyota, we consider providing vehicles to people a pretty important responsibility. But when that is compared to what our nation’s military personnel do everyday it seems pretty insignificant. Consider Congressional Medal of Honor recipient John Philip Baca and the heroism he displayed in 1970 while stationed in Vietnam.

According to an article from Toyota it was said that “In the words of his Medal of Honor citation, Baca ‘unhesitatingly and with complete disregard for his own safety’ covered a grenade tossed into the group with his helmet and his own body, smothering the blast and saving eight fellow soldiers from severe injury or death.”

An act of courage and unselfishness like that is something that can never be repaid nor is there any praise high enough for Mr. Baca and his efforts. Toyota, however, through the help of the American Soldier Network (ASN), learned that Baca was in need of transportation for himself and his service dog JoJo. Shortly thereafter, at a Forgotten Sons “Ride to Live” fundraising motorcycle ride Baca and JoJo were surprised with a brand new Platinum edition Toyota Tundra.

“As a veteran myself, I can truly understand the many perils that John and his fellow troops endured defending our nation,” said Smith. “It gives me great pleasure to present him with this Tundra on behalf of Toyota and our team members across America as just a small token of our gratitude to him for his service.”

It doesn’t stop there. Toyota has announced that $5,000 will be donated to ASN on Baca’s behalf. Oh, and JoJo received a year’s supply of dog food and dog travel accessories from Hills Dog Food, Purina Dog Food and MWI Animal Health.
