Keep your engine cool 

• An overheated engine is very common in the hot, summer heat. But if you keep your coolant at the proper levels and periodically flush out your engine, the chances of your engine overheating are slim! If you choose to top off your coolant yourself, be sure to let your vehicle cool down and NEVER open your radiator cap when the engine is hot!

Maintain a comfortable driving environment 

• When those temperatures start to ride, your air conditioning system becomes your best friend. Not only will the cooler temp keep your comfortable but it also increases your alertness and reduces fatigue. If your AC system isn’t working quite like it used to, it could mean that your refrigerant level is low or there is another underlying issue. We recommend stopping in to have your system checked over to diagnose any issues. 

Make sure your battery is prepared for high temps

• Many people think battery issues only happen in the winter time but that’s not true. In fact, extreme temperatures have an impact on your battery, no matter if it is the heat or the cold. Heat and vibration are your battery’s worst enemy which will lead to an internal breakdown and eventual failure. So, make sure your battery is securely fastened in your vehicle, properly cleaned, and charged ready to go.

Repairing your fueling system due to damage caused by driving on low fuel can be incredibly expensive and time-consuming. We’ve compiled a short list of some of the most important reasons why you shouldn’t let your tank get too low. If you read through our list and realize your car’s fueling system may need to be inspected, schedule a service appointment with the certified technicians at Fiore Toyota’s Service Center, and let us keep your car running for years to come. 

Why You Shouldn’t Drive On Empty:

Your Fuel Gauge Isn’t Always Accurate

• Some vehicles with electronic or needle point readouts are not always incredibly accurate. After your hit “Empty” you may have 1 mile left or 20, regardless you shouldn’t leave the length of your trip up to fate. 

Your Fuel Pump Uses Gasoline As A Coolant

• Your pump uses gasoline as a coolant, and when there’s no gas to pull in, it uses air instead. Air creates much more friction, and therefore heat, which creates the perfect recipe for your fuel pump to burn out quickly. 

Sediment Collects At The Bottom Of Your Tank

• Every fuel tank has a certain amount of sediment that collects at the bottom and when you are very low on fuel, your pump will start pulling in sediment-filled gas, sending gunk through your fuel lines and fuel injectors until you’ll need a full fuel system flush to get it running properly again.
