For several years, producing environmentally conscious vehicles has been a top priority for Toyota Motor Corporation. Under the notion that eco-friendly cars need to be widely accepted before making a measurable impact, Toyota has been strongly encouraging and promoting a global mass-market adoption of hybrid vehicles. Today is an illustration of this effort, as Toyota Motor Corporation proudly announced they have reached a total of 9.014 million units in global sales for their hybrid vehicles.

Back in 1997, Toyota launched the Coaster Hybrid EV and the Toyota Prius, known as the world’s first mass-produced vehicle. Since then, they have expanded their hybrid lineup to include the Corolla, RAV4, and Sienna. It is estimated they’ve decreased CO2 emissions by 67 million tons* and saved 25 million kiloliters of gasoline (that’s 6 billion gallons!). According to their Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, which they announced last year, Toyota is hoping to reach 15 million total units by 2020.
