The holiday season is one of the most meaningful and celebrated times of the year. Each family has their own traditions making it very special for most. However, it is important to remember that it is also the busiest travel time of the year. In recognition of this, Toyota has teamed up with the national injury prevention program, Buckle Up for Life to release “New Holiday Traditions for Child Passenger Safety”. It is important to note that the advancements in safety features on vehicles today have made the roads safer than ever, but car accidents are still the leading cause of death among children.
Buckle Up for Life’s New Holiday Traditions for Child Passenger safety:
- Make it a family affair: Since safety regulations and systems have changed over the years, it is important that if children are riding with older relatives, that the drivers know how to make it safe.
- Ban re-gifting: While it might be tempting to take a hand-me-down car seat, there is no way of knowing its history and should not be accepted.
- Just like holiday leftovers, car seats expire: Always be aware of how old a car seat is and its expiration date.
- Booster seats are for more than just the dinner table: Children under 4’9” should always sit in special seats to ensure adequate seatbelt use.
- Look forward to the new year, but keep young children looking back: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children remain in rear-facing car seats until age two, or until they exceed the height or weight limit for the car seat.
If you have any questions concerning vehicle safety, come into Fiore Toyota. Any one of our staff members will be happy to help!
