The Toyota Camry Hybrid offers many different advantages to drivers that range from not only environmental benefits but to cost savings as well. Recently, the Arkadelphia, Arkansas Police Department found this out first hand when they purchased ten new Toyota Camry Hybrids to replace some of their older models. The choice to go with the hybrid vehicles was met with mixed reaction from many members of the department. Several members including veteran officer Don Cleek felt that it would not be powerful enough to match up to the type of heavy V8 powered vehicles that they were used to driving such as the classic Ford Crown Victoria.

However, city manager Jimmy Bolt could see the benefits of using the hybrid vehicles and encouraged Chief of Police Al Harris to try out these vehicles and consider them as replacements to the Crown Vics. Very quickly, Harris came to see that not only did the Camry Hybrids perform just as well as the previous models in terms of the needs of his officers, but they also offer an impressive increase on gas mileage, with a rating of 27 mpg city. A vast improvement from the 12-14 mpg city achieved by the Crown Vics. With this impressive amount of gas savings and lower maintenance costs, the department saw a three-percent savings in its annual budget.
