Fall is in fall swing and before we know it the temperatures outside will be dropping low, and your Toyota is going to need some maintenance before that happens! As always, if you need help or don’t have time to complete your fall maintenance, our certified service professionals can help get your Toyota in tip-top shape in time for the fall season. All you have to do is schedule your service appointment and leave the rest to us! However, if you love getting your hands dirty with some DIY work, then this week’s blog is for you! Below you will find helpful tips and step-by-step instructions for cleaning your Toyota for the fall/winter season! The weather is so unpredictable so we suggest getting started on your maintenance sooner than later! So don’t wait any longer, kickstart your maintenance today!

Car Battery:

  • Pop open your hood and brush away the dust. Fall is a great time to inspect your car battery to ensure there are no issues down the road when the colder weather creeps in!
  • Make sure your engine cables and terminals are in good shape and retighten if necessary for good contact.
  • Make sure there’s no corrosion or dirt build-up. If this is the case, this would be a good time to disconnect and clean them up.
  • If your vehicle is newer and you have a maintenance-free battery with no removable caps, there’s not much for you to do besides peeking around the remainder of your hood to ensure there are no leaks, breaks, or issues.

Headlights:

  • Many new vehicles have LED headlights that you can’t just pop out and clean, so you might need scheduled maintenance with our team if this is your situation.
  • If you still have non-LED lighting, it’s important to clean/replace your headlights to avoid haziness.
  • Clouded headlights can be a safety hazard, compromising night vision, and reducing the effectiveness of your headlights. This is especially dangerous in winter, where conditions are less than favorable and the darkness is more consistent.
  • You can purchase a headlight cleaning kit, or use household items such as a toothbrush, baking soda, and the owner’s manual approved products.

Tires:

  • Tire maintenance is always a must, not just during the winter months. However, your tires play a crucial role in your vehicle’s winter performance.
  • The first thing you should do is to check your tire tread. When your tread is 2/32″ your tires are considered bald and you will need to replace your tires immediately. If your tire tread is above this you’re okay, but should consider replacing soon if it’s closer to balding.
  • Most vehicles are purchased with all-season tires, which provide good performance all year round. However, if you live in a very snowy area, we highly suggest purchasing snow tires.
  • Once your tires are on and in good condition, we suggest scrubbing away any dirt, grime, or buildup.

Wash & Wax:

  • Chances are your vehicle needs good washing after all your summer travel. Between dirt, dead bugs, and even beach sand, your exterior probably isn’t shining like it used to.
  • Give your vehicle a good cleaning, this means the top, sides, underneath, and even the tires.
  • Once you’ve washed your car, it’s a good idea to wax your vehicle’s exterior. Getting a car wax is a great way to keep your car’s finish looking new.
  • Waxing can be tricky, so be sure to check your owner’s manual for safe products from your vehicle or leave it to the pros in our service department!

Wipers:

  • Windshield wipers maintenance is regularly overlooked. However, your wipers are extremely important for your vision behind the wheel…especially in the fall and winter months.
  • Leaves will be falling very soon, and rain is no stranger to the fall months. This means you’ll need strong wipers to clear the leaves and rain off your windshield.
  • Right after the leaves comes the snow, and anyone who has driven in a snowstorm knows how important your winters are.
  •  If your wipers are leaving streaks of water on your windshield, it’s time to replace or clean them.
  • Although drivers rarely change them, wipers break down pretty quickly. In fact, they should be changed every 6-12 months.

Interior:

  • It’s time to say goodbye to the trash that’s taken up a vacancy in your car! After traveling all summer long, it’s only normal your interior needs a little pick me up.
  • We suggest grabbing a garbage bag, your vacuum cleaner, and some multi-surface cleaner.
  • First started by taking everything out, and we mean everything!
  • Then, vacuum away crumbs, dust, and whatever else is in there. Don’t forget to clean off whatever item you’ll be putting back in your vehicle.
  • Then it’s time to dust, spray down your dash, console, gear shift, radio system, and of course windows!
  • Finally, put whatever you’re keeping back inside your cabin in a neat and orderly way, and toss whatever is remaining!

Have you ever been on a test drive and felt like you didn’t really get the most out of your time behind the wheel? We get that and the team at Fiore Toyota is here to assist you with those things. This week we have a few tips to ensure that when you stop in to see our team for a test drive, you’ll get the most of that time behind the wheel. We hope that you’ll take some time to go over those tips and put them to good use this summer. Schedule your test drive online today and stop in when it’s convenient for you – we hope to see you soon!

Understanding what the test drive is

  • The #1 goal of a test drive is to see if the vehicle is a good fit for you and your family. While spending a lot of money on a new vehicle, it’s important to ensure that the vehicle you’re test driving is really the right one and worth the money you’re going to spend. Take your time with the vehicle, go over all of the features, and don’t be pressured into purchasing something you don’t love through and through.

Listen to the experts

  • While your opinion matters most, there is also a time and place to listen to the car experts when it comes to features like comfort, convenience, power, etc. Car reviews can be a great source of information and can offer great insight that you perhaps didn’t notice during your test drive.

Drive the vehicle as if you own it

  • One mistake many new car buyers make is not driving the vehicle on your daily commute. We encourage you to take advantage of this time by driving back roads, busy streets, or highways if they are typically in your daily commute. This will help you get a better feel for how the ride will be once you purchase the vehicle.

Don’t let shiny features blind you

  • Oftentimes, buyers are blinded by specific features or price points. Don’t let this be you. Take all of the features into consideration before making a final decision. It’s a great idea to make a list of features that you’re looking for in a vehicle and check them off as you go.

Summer is coming to a close and that means you could be ready to upgrade your ride. Or perhaps you have a college student that could use a new set of wheels. Whether that’s you or someone you love, we have plenty of next Kia models waiting for you right here at Fiore Toyota. But first, we want to spread a little knowledge with you! Below, you will find a few important questions you’ll want to ask before signing on the dotted line. It’s important to know exactly what you are getting when you purchase a new vehicle and these questions will help determine that. So, check them out, put them to good use, and come see our team when you’re ready to upgrade your ride! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Are there any additional fees?

  • We hope it isn’t a shock but when buying a new car, you’ll be paying for more than just the car itself. It’s a good idea to ask what fees you are going to pay and how much they will be. This will cut down on confusion when it’s time for you to sign and drive off the lot with your new Toyota.

What other amenities does the vehicle come with?

  • Cars these days come with many gadgets and gizmos and you will want to know what they are before driving off or signing. Why? Well, if the vehicle you’re considering has features that you may not use or want – you probably don’t want to pay for them. Also, on the flip side, if you’re looking for specific features, you’ll want to ask and make sure your new vehicle is equipped with them.

Will you hold the vehicle while I make a decision?

  • Of course, we will but we like to put this on here to ensure that you ask and don’t lose out on a great new vehicle that you’ve fallen in love with. We encourage our customers to take the time they need, buying a new vehicle is a big investment and we want you to be sure this is the right option for you!

How long is the warranty and what does it cover?

  • Your vehicle is an investment and you will need to take care of that investment. Be sure to ask what type of warranty your vehicle comes with and how long it will last. These warranties will help keep some cash in your wallet when it comes to repairs and maintenance.

Summer vacation is here and if you’re planning to hit the road with family, friends, and your pet, it’s important to know a few things about keeping your pet safe and healthy before hitting the road. Don’t worry – we know this might be stressful but we’ve done the work for you. Below is a list of a few important tips to help keep your pets happy, healthy, and safe during the summer trips! For assistance on upgrading into a new vehicle behind hitting the road, contact our team today, or schedule an appointment online! We look forward to working with you – see you soon!

Never leave your pet alone in the vehicle.

  • Never. Ever. Repeat, never ever leave your pet alone in your vehicle. When traveling, plan your bathroom stops in dog-friendly places like pet stores.

Make sure your vehicle is ready for the trip.

  • Whether you just stopped in to have service or it’s been some time, make sure that everything seems to be in proper working order. The last thing you need is to be dealing with a breakdown or broken AC along the way.

Start early in the day.

  • While summer temperatures are high in the mornings too, it’s a great idea to start the day early while temperatures are at their lowest. Take your pet for a walk or a little exercise while the temperatures are still bearable.

Freeze water.

  • Freezing your water the night before offers cooler drinks the next day. While we recommend freezing two water bottles for you and your pet, we also recommend keeping a few bottles that are not frozen. And we recommend packing twice as much water as you think you’ll need – a good rule of thumb.

Offer water often.

  • Sometimes when traveling we forget to take a drink of water and if we’re forgetting, so is our pet. So it’s important to offer water often to ensure they are staying hydrated throughout the day. Also, grab a collapsible water bowl, they offer convenience and are easy to clean.

Beware of the pavement.

  • When temperatures are climbing, the asphalt temperature is hot as well. When you stop to hop out for a potty break or to stretch the legs, look for shady areas with grass. This will keep your pet from burning their paws. If you can’t find a grassy area, spread a towel on the ground to protect their paws while stretching or pour some water on the ground to cool it off.

Watch out for signs of heat stress.

  • Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are very dangerous conditions that even our pets can suffer from. Look out for lethargy, vomiting, agitation, uncontrollable panting, foaming at the mouth, and tongue and gums that turn from red to blue to gray. And always consult your veterinarian before traveling with your pet.

Can you believe that July is nearly over? I know, you’re probably screaming at me to stop talking because nobody wants to think about the fact that we only have a little bit of summer left. Well, don’t stress, you’ve got lots of time to get out and enjoy the rest of the summer, and the best way to do that is to hit the road for your next big getaway. However, whether you’re planning on taking a day trip or getting away for the week, travel can be hard if you’re taking the kids along for the ride. Let’s face it, kids get bored easily and when that happens you could be stuck with tears on tears on tears. To avoid that situation from happening and inevitability you crying, we have got some helpful tips for you in this week’s blog. We want to help keep you from pulling your hair out, and the best way to do that is to keep the kiddos entertained. A fun way to do that is with games! Below we have listed some of our favorites and we wanted to share them with you! However, we do suggest bring along filler activities to do in between games because you don’t want to play them all at once and be stuck with nothing else to do during your ride!  So check out our list below and remember to have safe travels!

  1. I Spy: This is a car ride classic! It will keep the kids guessing and entertain for a good amount of time, plus it so much for them to feel like they have fooled you so don’t guess correct too quickly!
  1. Road Trip Bingo: This fun game combines bingo with a scavenger hunt. Give each child a flat surface, like a clipboard or a notebook, and have them place it in their lap. each player gets a free printable bingo card and a ziplock bag with 16 pennies. When a player spies an item on his card, he covers the picture with a penny. Just like in regular bingo, the first player to cover all the squares in a straight line, wins.
  1. License Plate Game: Make sure everyone has a piece of paper or come prepared and print out maps. Then write down or cross out each state you see, once someone has crossed out all 50 (or whoever has the most) they win!
  1. 20 Questions. This easy-peasy game is great for young kids, thanks to its straightforward rules. Player One thinks of a person, place or thing. Everyone else takes turns asking questions that can be answered with a simple yes or no. After each answer, the questioner gets one guess. Play continues until a player guesses correctly.
  1. I’m Going on a Picnic. This alphabet-based memory game is great for kids 5 and up. You don’t need a game board or any materials. The game can be played with as few as two players, but it’s more fun when the whole family joins in. The first player says “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing…” followed by something that begins with A, such as apples. The second player repeats what the first person said, but adds something that begins with B. And so on. If someone forgets an item, she is out. To be fair, feel free to be lenient and give hints to younger players. The last player to be able to recite all the items on the list wins.
