Toyota Motor Company knows that mobility is not just a convenience but something that can empower you to take charge of your life. That is why the brand has started Project BLAID which is dedicated to creating a device that would offer more mobility to the visually impaired. This device would help to offer the wearer better navigation when walking around indoor spaces such as houses, offices, stores, public restrooms, stairs, escalators, and much more.
This device has been designed to use cameras to help better detect objects in the surrounding area and then it transmits this information to the wearer through speakers and vibration motors. Overall, this will help to fill in any gaps left by canes and guide dogs. Eventually, Toyota plans to include software such as facial recognition, mapping, and object detection.
“Project BLAID is one example of how Toyota is leading the way to the future of mobility, when getting around will be about more than just cars,” said Simon Nagata, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, Toyota Motor North America. “We want to extend the freedom of mobility for all, no matter their circumstance, location or ability.”

Denny Hamlin Wins Daytona 500 for Toyota
Toyota Racing started racing season this year with a historical win during this past Sunday’s 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season-opener in Daytona. In what is now the closest finish in Daytona 500 history, The Joe Gibbs Racing No.11 FedEx Camry driven by Denny Hamlin reached the finish line 0.010 seconds before Camry driver, Martin Truex.
This was an exciting win for both Denny Hamlin, who has now clinched a spot in the Chase championship playoff, and Toyota Racing. Toyota has been gained over 80 victories since their first appearance in the Sprint Cup Series back in 2007. Hamlin has been a big part of this success; since becoming a Toyota driver in 2008, he has won 24 of his 27 NSCS victories.
“This is the greatest race in America,” said David Wilson, president and general manager of TRD, U.S.A. (Toyota Racing Development). “For our company to have won it makes it that special. The reason we came into the sport was to connect with the American fans, to talk about how we build every Camry in America. I still remember what resonated my first time at Daytona, this moniker – ‘The Great American Race’ – as we were looking at why we should come into NASCAR. That was a big part of it – to have a shot at winning ‘The Great American Race,’ to be able to talk to the incredible, powerful fan base that NASCAR has. How do you quantify the value? It’s truly stunning and special.”
Make sure to watch the next NASCAR race which will be at Atlanta Motor Speedway on February 28th and check back with our blog for more Toyota Racing updates!

- Historic Toyota Racing Entries
- The Tundra that famously towed the Endeavour Space Shuttle in 2012 along with a replica of the shuttle’s nose cone
“We’re incredibly proud of our Toyota Injector and honored to be the first founding partner of the Daytona Rising project,” said Keith Dahl, General Manager for Motorsports and Asset Management for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. “Our Injector allows us to engage with visitors in an environment filled with Toyota activities, information and branding – it gives us the opportunity to bring our message to fans in an inspiring manner.Furthermore, this partnership with Daytona reinforces Toyota’s commitment to NASCAR and to motorsports fans, and allows us to showcase that Toyotas are made in America by your neighbors and members of your community.”
Be sure to check out all of these displays at more if you make a trip to Daytona during the 2016 racing season.
