2017 Toyota 4Runner Adds Two Off-Road Trims
The Toyota 4Runner has always been known for its commanding presence both on-road and off-road as well! This year, the 2017 Toyota 4Runner will be adding two TRD (Toyota Racing Development) models to its lineup, furthering its reputation as a rugged off-road machine.
The TRD Off-Road and Off-Road Premium will reflect the four decades of off-road racing heritage with exterior features like black painted wheels, TRD Off-Road badge on shift knobs/floor mats, and the Off-Road Premium has TRD red lettering on the headrests for the driver and front passenger. Performance-wise, the 4Runner is more capable than ever, with the Multi-Terrain Select System that lets drivers select the mode that matches their terrain, Toyota’s Crawl Control that enhances driver vehicle control over obstacles, and the available Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System that utilizes extended wheel travel. All of these features make for greater stability, capability, and overall off-road experience.
“The 4Runner has a large and loyal following, with dependability being a key factor. Of all the 4Runners purchased in the last ten years, 90 percent are still on the road,” said John Myers, national manager, trucks and SUVs, Toyota Vehicle Marketing and Communications. “4Runner owners often take their SUVs off the beaten path, so these new TRD Off-Road grades will be a popular recognition of TRD’s history in the off-road arena.”

Toyota has always been at the forefront of innovation when it comes to the automotive industry and they look to be continuing on that path. For the second year in a row, the United States Patent and Trademark Office has presented Toyota engineers and designers with more patents than any other automotive brand. In fact, in the past eight years, Toyota has been the recipient of 1,636 patents that include automotive upgrades such as autonomous vehicle safety features, self-cleaning fabrics, and artificial skin for use on pedestrian safety mannequins.
“As companies in the automotive industry transform themselves into broader mobility providers, no auto company better demonstrates innovation and technology for the future than Toyota,” said Jeff Makarewicz, senior vice president, Toyota Technical Center (TTC), Toyota’s North American research & development headquarters. “We’re focused on delivering great experiences for our customers, a cornerstone of Toyota’s product commitment, and this recognition is proof we’re living up to that promise.”
This commitment to innovation is a clear demonstration of the brand’s commitment to creating better, and safer vehicles and also solidifies their place as a global automotive leader. This was emphasized even further when Toyota became the sole automaker to be included in the Top 20 of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) list of key innovators.

Toyota Camry Is Cars.com Most American-Made
This upcoming Monday, July 4th, 2016 marks 240 years of America, and Toyota is celebrating with the Toyota Camry, who has just been named by Cars.com as the most American-made. The Camry has played a huge role in America as the best-selling car here for 14 years, and now it is at the top of the American-Made Index. This index rates American built and bought vehicles based on factors such as if the vehicle is assembled here, if the parts are American, and if it sells well in the U.S.
The Camry, which is assembled in Georgetown, KY at the largest manufacturing plant in the world, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky Inc., received a percent of 75 of U.S. sold domestic content from the NHTSA. The Toyota Sienna also scored very high, coming in third on the list.
“This recognition from Cars.com is a tribute to Toyota employees, not only those at the plant who build the Camry, but the broader Toyota team who design, engineer, market and finance the vehicle in the United States,” said Bob Carter, Toyota senior vice president of automotive operations. “We also support local suppliers and economies, and we have invested more than $6 billion into our Kentucky operations alone, which is growing with our new production engineering campus under construction there.”

Toyota Adds Three Child Crash Dummies
Toyota Motor Corporation knows that the most precious cargo in your Toyota vehicle are your tiny passengers. That’s why they’re constantly working to develop new ways to keep them safe. This week, Toyota unveiled its fourth and newest version of the Total Human Model for Safety (THUMS), a virtual crash dummy software.
This version will introduce new passengers, including a three-year-old (3’1” tall), a six-year old (3’10” tall), and a ten-year-old (4’6” tall). This introduction of children follow the collaborative research project between the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, and Toyota’s Collaborative Safety Research Center*. This software is able to simulate vehicle crash injuries on humans. Because it’s able to predict injuries and their extent on humans (and now, children), Toyota will be able to better protect all passengers with devices and safety features such as airbags.
*The Collaborative Safety Research Center was established in 2011. It aims to reduce the number of traffic fatalities and injuries through collaborative research with North American universities, hospitals and research agencies, and by sharing the results of this research with society. Between 2011 and 2021, it is slated to receive 85 million dollars in investment.
