Hitting the road this summer is something that’s been on my mind lately. And, that means my best friend, my dog, will be along for most of those travels. If you’re anything like me, you know that keeping your pet happy and healthy is what is most important. This week I have a few tips that will help make traveling with your dog easier than ever. So, check out those tips below and if you’re ready to upgrade your ride this May – stop in to see our team. But if not, no worries! We still want to encourage you to service your vehicle before hitting the road. Why? Well, much like keeping your pooch happy and healthy, we want to do the same with your vehicle. Be sure to take a look at our service and parts offers and give us a call to schedule your service appointment today! Let’s get started!

Use a crate & keep them safe:

  • While out and about traveling, your pooch should always be secure inside his/ her crate or secured by a proper seatbelt for dogs in the backseat. If you go with the crate option, make sure you make it comfortable for them by adding a blanket, a favorite toy, and any other items your doggo likes. This will help keep your pet entertained and relaxed throughout the trip. Avoid feeding them or giving them water during the trip. It could make them sick, wait for a pit stop.

Don’t leave your pooch:

  • DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG IN THE VEHICLE. This is putting your pet at risk and quite frankly, it’s not worth it. Unless your vehicle is parked in a secure, cool, covered parking garage – don’t risk it. Treat your pup how you’d want to be treated and keep them safe!

Take a potty break:

  • We all need to take a minute to stop, stretch our legs, and maybe use the bathroom. Treat your pooch to that same courtesy. This will also allow your dog to stay calm and they won’t be so anxious being kept locked up in a crate the entire trip. Let your pooch burn off that excess energy and perhaps they’ll take a little snooze when you hit the road again!

Food, water, treats, medications:

  • A consistent diet is very important for pets, especially ones that have sensitive stomachs. Always pack enough food and treats to keep your pooch full and if they require specific water or are not used to drinking water other than what you give at home, pack that as well. Don’t forget any medications that your dog might need along the way!

Vet visits are key:

  • Is your pet safe and healthy enough to travel? A quick visit to the vet can answer any/ all questions that you may have when it comes to traveling, especially if your pet is on the older side. Getting your vets approval to travel is important.

May is the perfect month to get behind the wheel and go, go, go! And while your only worry should be making it to your destination, we want to remind you that servicing your vehicle before you hit the road is crucial. Why? Well, if you’re like me, you do your occasional oil change and that’s about it. But if you’re trying to hit the road for long distances, it’s a great idea to have a professional check over your vehicle. And this month, our service specials will help you service your ride and save money while doing so! Check out all of our service offers below and stop by to see our team to schedule your service appointment. We’re here to help – Let’s Go Places!

Every vehicle on the road is designed differently and each one is designed to run at top performance with a specific type of fuel. If you’re truly unsure which type of fuel you should be filling up the tank with, give us a call or check your owners manual for answers! But this week, we are going to help guide you through why the right fuel matters and the difference between those fuel types.

What is the difference between fuel types?

  • The first and most noticeable difference is the price! I mean, when you pull up and the “premium” fuel is more expensive, it’s pretty obvious of that first difference. Did you know that premium fuel tends to run about 20 cents higher than regular fuel? It sure is!
  • In addition to the price, premium fuel also comes with a higher octane level. Those numbers, commonly seen as 92 or 93 and 87, are to differentiate the octane levels of premium, being a higher number, to regular gas, the lower number. Octane is how much compression a fuel can withstand before igniting – a higher octane gas will not pre-ignite or explode as quickly as lower octane levels.

The right fuel matters, but why?

Many drivers are tempted to fill up their vehicle with a lower grade of octane in order to save money. But in the long run, it could damage your vehicle and your vehicle will not perform as it is intended if it is required to use higher octane levels. The problem? These lower octane levels allow combustion to happen too fast in your engine which can lead to issues. Issues like your engine could make knocking noises, reducing your car’s power and fuel economy, and potentially cause engine damage.

Let’s reverse the roles, using higher octane fuel when you usually use regular won’t create any drastic changes. But if you use regular gas and switch to premium gas, you won’t notice any extra benefits. So, in my opinion, save your money and fill up with the octane level your vehicle is asking for.

I know there’s been a time or two where you are driving down the road and your gas light comes on. You choose to ignore it and for a little while, that’s alright. But you’re causing serious harm to your vehicle. You’re probably thinking, “no I’m not.” But in reality, you actually are and this week we are going to outline the damage that you are actually causing to your vehicle and why it is so important to fill up your tank before that little light shows up. Take a look at our guide below and stop in to have your fuel pump checked or if you’re ready to upgrade your ride altogether.

You’re Wearing Out The Pump:

The gas you pump into your vehicle acts as a coolant for the electric fuel-pump motor and when you run low on fuel, this allows your fuel-pump to suck in air. What’s that mean? That means your fuel pump is running hot and can cause your fuel pump to wear out prematurely or eventually fail. This problem will happen over time but can be costly to repair or replace.

Fuel Gauges Aren’t Always Accurate:

Just because your fuel gauge says you have 30 miles to empty, don’t take the chance. Fuel gauges are known to not be 100% accurate and the precision of your gauge relies on various factors including your vehicle’s fuel economy and your driving style. Consider this as an estimate and not an exact mileage to empty. In short, running on empty puts you at risk of getting stranded or being in an accident when your vehicle suddenly stops in the roadway. So, just fill up. Ok?

Sediment Implications Are Brutal:

When you fill up the tank, sediments in the gasoline tend to settle toward the bottom of the tank. If you let your fuel levels run low, dirt and other sediments get stirred up from the bottom of the tank. Then, as your fuel pump is trying to pump gas into your engine, it’s sucking up the dirtiest gasoline in the tank filled with all those sediments. This mixture of dirty gasoline can end up in the engine or fuel line and will be a costly repair. If you engine clogs, your entire fuel line system will have to be flushed which again can be very costly.

Friends near and far, we’re here to tell you that it’s National Car Care Month and what better way to celebrate than getting outside in the fresh spring air and treating your vehicle to a little TLC? Well, there is no better way! Now, we won’t lead you in blind. We have your spring cleaning guide this week to help you decide exactly what you should be checking for. So, are you ready to get started? We sure hope so because April is quickly coming to a close and your vehicle deserves all the love you can give it. Let’s get started!

  • Check any and all fluids that are in your vehicle. If they seem low, fill them up. If they look dirty, change them out. Engine oil, power steering, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid – check them all!
  • Have your battery checked by a professional to ensure that it is still in proper working condition.
  • You should check your brake system at the end of each season to be sure they are working properly. In addition, have your rotors, brake linings, and drums inspected at every oil change.
  • Take a look at your hoses and belts – check for cracking, brittle, loose, or signs of excessive wear.
  • How are your tires looking? Make sure they are at proper PSI levels and make sure your tread isn’t unevenly worn.
  • Inspect your exhaust system, you’re looking for any leakage or damage. A key indication of this is unusual noise.
  • Give your HVAC system a go. If your noticing issues or unbearable smells, stop in to see our team and we’ll be more than happy to take a look for you.
  • Got lighting? Take a few minutes to check all of your lightings in your vehicle. Headlights. Brake lights. Interior lighting. It’s important to be able to see and be seen – make sure these are in proper working condition at all times.
  • Windshield wipers are a must. If you haven’t replaced your wipers in the last six months, it’s time to swap them out for a fresh new pair.
  • Lastly, it’s a great idea to schedule a tune-up to improve your fuel efficiency for all of those spring/ summer road trips you’re planning!
