Can you believe that it’s almost July? We sure can’t! But that means you and your family are probably getting ready to hit the road for a little summer fun! And we want to help make sure that you steer clear of any problems or breakdowns when you’re out and about. Take a look at these summer car care tips listed out below for you and if there’s anything you can’t handle, give us a call! We’re here for all of your service needs and we want to keep you on the road this summer. Give us a call or schedule below!
Keep your engine cool
An overheated engine is very common in the hot, summer heat. But if you keep your coolant at the proper levels and periodically flush out your engine, the chances of your engine overheating are slim! If you choose to top off your coolant yourself, be sure to let your vehicle cool down and NEVER open your radiator cap when the engine is hot!
Make sure those fluids are at proper levels
Most engine fluids lubricate and serve as a way to help carry heat away from critical components in order for them to cool off in hot temperatures. When you let your fluid levels drop, this cooling-off effect is drastically reduced which makes overheating a real possibility. We recommend checking all of your vehicle fluids including motor oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid periodically to ensure they are at their proper level.
Maintain a comfortable driving environment
When those temperatures start to rise, your air conditioning system becomes your best friend. Not only will the cooler temp keep you comfortable but it also increases your alertness and reduces fatigue. If your AC system isn’t working quite like it used to, it could mean that your refrigerant level is low or there is another underlying issue. We recommend stopping in to have your system checked over to diagnose any issues.
Make sure your battery is prepared for high temps
Many people think battery issues only happen in the wintertime but that’s not true. In fact, extreme temperatures have an impact on your battery, no matter if it is the heat or the cold. Heat and vibration are your battery’s worst enemy which will lead to an internal breakdown and eventual failure. So, make sure your battery is securely fastened in your vehicle, properly cleaned, and charged ready to go.

Keep your tires properly inflated
Your tires should always be filled to proper PSI levels, but driving on under-inflated tires can cause tires to overheat and eventually blow out which is extremely dangerous to yourself, your passengers, and other drivers. Make a note to check your tire’s PSI at least once a month (even the spare) and be sure to do so when they are cold for the best, most accurate reading.

Inspect what’s under the hood
Oftentimes, we forget about all the components that are working hard under the hood to help get us to where we want to be during the summer months! Well, we’re here to remind you to give them a look over. Check on your engine’s hoses, drive belts, and anything susceptible to heat-related deterioration. These things can lead to a breakdown which is what we’re trying to avoid. So, spend a few minutes when your vehicle is cool & make sure there are no cracks, soft spots, or any other signs of poor condition!

Can you believe that we are almost halfway through the spring season?! It’s hard to believe but one thing we want to talk about is the power of allergy season that comes along with spring. And nothing is worse than being behind the wheel and suffering from seasonal allergies. This week we have put together an easy four step guide on how to allergy proof your ride. Spend some time checking out these details below and be sure to schedule a service appointment with our team to ensure that your vehicle is allergen free and ready to keep dirt, dust, and allergens out while you’re behind the wheel!
Change Out Air Filters
Air filters are sometimes the most forgotten thing in a vehicle. While air filters are the barrier between you and the pollen inside your cabin, it is crucial to swap out your air filters at the start of each season for plenty of reasons. We recommend changing at the beginning of the spring season and checking back again towards the end to ensure smart, clean breathing when you’re inside your vehicle.
Clean Those Carpets
Your vehicle’s carpeting is known to be a home for allergens, dirt, dust, and all things nasty. The first way to allergy-proof your ride is to make sure your carpeting (and seating) is clean and dry. If you want to go the extra step, invest in all-season floor mats to make this process easier or to keep allergens from building up in your vehicle’s carpeting.
Keep Your Windows Closed
Pollen season is here and that means you’ll be sneezing in no time! Let’s cut back on those sneeze attacks by keeping our windows closed tight when pollen is at its peak. We also recommend using only the recirculating cycle if or when you need to use your air conditioner in order to avoid pollen from entering your vehicle’s cabin.
Avoid Irritants
Many drivers think cleaning their vehicle with strong fragrance products or adding a new air freshener to their vehicle will make all those bad smells go away. And in some cases, they will. But those fragrances can add irritation and could make those allergies worse. So, avoid all that and choose something that will not irritate your nasal membranes.
Got the itch to take a road trip?! We have you covered with tips on how to make that dream a reality and a safe and prepared one at that. Below are five tips that will help you conquer the road ahead and before you set out, be sure to schedule a service appointment with our team to ensure that your Toyota is ready to tackle the open road! But first tips, and schedule with us online today! We look forward to working with you and your Toyota – see you soon!
Clean your ride before & during the trip
- From top to bottom, give your vehicle a little TLC cleaning. Give it a wash, vacuum, and be sure to throw out any unnecessary items, wrappers, receipts, etc. You’ll regret not cleaning out your vehicle before hitting the road, trust us.
Check in on your vehicle
- Before leaving for your trip, we encourage you to have our service team look over your vehicle to ensure things are in proper working order. From your fluid levels, brakes, tires, and anything else that can cause an issue, it’s important to make sure you’re ready to handle any situation.
Have a backup plan
- It’s always important when road tripping to have a backup plan, whether it’s additional options to stop and grab gas, to stay or eat, or additional routes to take, it’s important to be able to change your plans on-the-fly if issues arise along the way.
Preload entertainment options
- While the radio is a great entertainment option, crossing state lines and towns might cause issues with select stations. We encourage you to preload music, podcast, and additional entertainment options that might keep you engaged during the drive. We also recommend bringing a phone charger to keep your phone charged at all times.
Join a roadside assist service
- While we hope you won’t be needing this, having roadside assistance is a great way to stay safe if things go south during your trip. Having access to these services will save you a lot of trouble and we recommend it greatly!
